Wii making indoor recess easier for elementary schools

By Mallory Miller, NewsNetNebraska

Living in Nebraska has its share of challenges. Chief among them for elementary school teachers is what to do with children when the weather outside prevents them from going out for recess. Eastridge Elementary is one of the schools in the Lincoln Public Schools district that decided to purchase a Nintendo Wii to help keep kids active when they have to stay inside. Through a partnership with Coventry Healthcare, LPS will be able to provide Wiis to four schools at a time on a rotating basis. Eastridge Principal Deb Dabbert says the Wii has helped get every student involved. “I no longer dread indoor recess,” she said. “It’s a fun time for both the teachers and kids. To see our kids engaged and having fun has been so worthwhile.”
