Story and video by Ben Rickaby, News Net Nebraska

Robert Vencil, from Omaha Neb., lives and breathes the outdoors. He enjoys any and all outdoor activities from running and biking to camping and fishing.

“I can’t stand sitting indoors, hell I’ll do yard work just to get outside.”

Along with enjoying the outdoors,  Vencil considers himself to be a bit of a health nut. He spends a good chunk of time at the gym working out. He hated weight training and running when he was younger but something changed and now he can’t seem to get enough of it.

“I exercise because I truly enjoy it. I get a sense of personal fulfillment from it.”

Vencil also values family.  He and his family get together to have dinner and to church together on a weekly basis.

One of his favorite sports is golf and he owes his love of golfing to his grandmother. His grandmother took him golfing for the first time in seventh grade at Milt’s Golf course and he has been hooked ever since. Robert and his grandmother go out golfing anytime he’s home.

Vencil has always wanted to be a journalist from the time he was in third grade and was putting out his own little family paper. He wanted to get into a journalism class when he was in middle school but had to wait until high school because the class couldn’t get enough students.

In high school Robert’s biggest influence as a journalist was his teacher Jeff Lacey. Robert said that being in Lacey’s classes was almost like having a dad working at school. Robert started at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to get a degree in journalism. Sometime during his sophomore year he started to look into other programs that he might be interested in but couldn’t bring himself to switch and will be graduating with a degree in journalism in May 2014.
