Ivana Jackson is a 2010 graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  Shortly after graduating from UNL, Jackson was the creator and series producer of the PBS show “What’s good DC?” The magazine-formatted youth television series broadcast on WHUT Howard University Television in Washington D.C.

She has since worked on the PBS documentary “180 Days: A Year Inside an American High School”. The documentary explored the origins of the dropout rate in our current system of education.

“We can have a substantial impact,” Jackson said of media coverage on this issue. “There’s an opportunity to have real conversations about what the solutions are.”

Her biggest challenge with the documentary was initially deciding to be a part of it.

“I thought it might exploit people’s stories,” she said.

Jackson said she is proud of the work PBS has done and stressed the importance of work ethic to the NewsNet classroom.

“That constant ‘I’m- willing- to- learn’ attitude is what will make the difference,” she said.
