International student and traveler lands in Nebraska
HOME: PRAGUE, THE CZECH REPUBLIC
MAJOR: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS
HOBBIES: TRAVEL, GOING OUT WITH FRIENDS
FAVORITE SAYING: “DON’T PUT OFF TILL TOMORROW WHAT YOU CAN DO TODAY.”
Jan Krejčíř has seen it all. His travels have led him to exotic places around the world.
Growing up his whole life in Prague, the Czech Republic, Krejčíř’s parents encouraged him and his siblings to travel to as many places and as often as possible. His travels took him to 38 countries and every continent except Australia and South America.
“Travel is my biggest passion in life,” he said. “I want a job where I can travel and get to know as many people and cultures as I can.”
Krejčíř is an international business major taking various courses provided by the College of Business Administration at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He is also an account executive at Jacht, a student-run advertising agency.
“I’m having real interactions, doing real work and gaining real-life experience,” Krejčíř said. “All that I’ve learned in Jacht and in my classes are preparing me for my future.”
Studying in Nebraska has not only expanded Krejčíř’s knowledge about business but about the people in the United States. Nebraskans, he said, are perceived as kind people who greet each other with a smile and a sincere welcome.
“I enjoy getting to know new cultures, how they live and what their values and life goals are,” he said. “It is interesting to compare cultures.”
His favorite places to travel were to Egypt and Tanzania. He hopes to travel to Mexico, Guatemala and Belize.
After traveling to Africa and other underdeveloped countries, he said the experiences show you a lot about the people and their lives. After seeing drugs and crime in the same places you see children, Krejčíř has learned travel is more than just having fun, it’s about learning.
“Traveling is really good for self-development and gaining a better perspective.”
